with this discipleship stuff! High demand religion is a dream we pastors have for our communities of faith for it means the money is plentiful, the volunteers are numerous and the ministry is huge!! Not big, in numbers necessarily, but huge in impact. The High demand chapter is the one that birthed the Barnabas project; this is why the leftovers for Jesus was never the goal, but something which had value. And that is still not EVEN close to the demands placed upon those who are joining the monasteries! Galli puts us in our place; we think we give so much, we pat ourselves on the back for the 'great things we do to make a difference" and, like when humans plan (God laughs).. an emotion is elicited from the Creator. The Lord weeps. Our "high demands" are usually not high at all; most the time they represent things we would do naturally and we reward ourselves with arrogance; I should have a say because I do so much, My voice is the one that's because I am a big giver. My opinion is the most important because I said so. I love the guy who said recently about politicians "They never listen to the people"... the issue he was talking about had an approval rate of 70 %! He was on the wrong side of the issue and generalized his frustration. His demand to be heard was lost on him "because everyone thinks like I do." Wrong! That is the problem with this Jesus stuff.. faith doesn't mean we get to make up the rules for faith; Jesus tells us what it looks like. God doesn't listen to us... we listen to God. I agree with Galli; if you REALLY want to serve Jesus be afraid, be very afraid. In a good way.
